In practice, this means that companies have to face difficult decisions in a highly competitive environment with high labor costs and strong global competition in order to find a balance between sustainability goals and the classic triangle of cost, time and quality. This includes, for example, the introduction of new production technologies and systems through to the selection of overarching production concepts, such as the establishment of new production sites.
A multidimensional evaluation of production and process technology alternatives is an essential instrument of strategic technology management for manufacturing companies in order to make individually reasonable decisions.
