Implementation Synergies

Our experts were asked to examine the effectiveness of a previously implemented strategy for an adhesives manufacturer. The aim of this strategy was to achieve global synergy effects by restructuring the organization.

Objective

The Fraunhofer IPT was commissioned to draw up recommendations for the further development of the business strategy and the organization. The aim was to quantitatively identify and evaluate the relevant mechanisms of action for market superiority. Based on this, qualitative starting points were to be developed for a management concept aimed at realizing synergies in strategy implementation.

Approach

In the first step, our experts analyzed the underlying strategy and business model in order to concretize the key success factors. In the second step, they then derived hypotheses on possible synergies and their positive effect on outperformance. In the third step, our experts validated these hypotheses through quantitative analyses by using KPIs from a long-term database to make the measures implemented measurable and observable. In the fourth step, correlation analyses were used to demonstrate how the measures contributed positively to superiority. We documented these results in case studies in order to develop qualitative starting points for a data-based management concept.

Outcome

The company received a detailed research model with which the measures introduced can be analyzed and tracked. The statistical evaluation of hypotheses showed that some of the strategic and organizational innovations implemented led to a demonstrable increase in outperformance. The company is now integrating these findings as potential for future development when reviewing its strategy.
