Innovation Strategy

For a sensor OEM in the process industry, we developed its strategic positioning for future product and process innovations.

Objective

The aim of the project was to transform the new Group-wide corporate strategy, which is based on the derived business strategy for a subsidiary, into an innovation strategy. The aim was to consider both the potential for innovation within the core business and adjacent areas.

Approach

In the first step, we analyzed the new Group and business strategy for the core process of innovation. To this end, we analyzed the existing competencies, technology fields and innovation projects as well as the company's strengths and weaknesses profile. In the second step, we used a comprehensive analysis of the core industries, competitors and potential threats of disruption to identify areas of innovation and work out their innovation potential in detail. In the third step, the fields of innovation were prioritized on the basis of qualitative evaluation criteria. Finally, the innovation projects were operationalized and responsibilities were defined across the company's various development organizations in a roadmap.

Outcome

We provided the client with a comprehensive analysis of the corporate environment with a focus on the core industries, competitors and customers. Based on the prioritization of selected fields of innovation, we developed recommendations for action to operationalize the innovation strategy. In this way, we were able to fill the innovation roadmaps of the various development organizations with content.
